Croc farm visit 02/08/10

Crocodile farm

We went to the thaba kwena to do our tour and to get to now the crocodiles better and to do a tour about the croc. The guides took as all on the tour and they now allot and it was fun to see the croc's and there is about four big one's and we learned allot about the breeding and the feeding and there habitat and they have been living for some while and they are made to survive

I Had to do reach about the breeding about the croc and the are much smarter then people think and they very good parents they look after there young one's and so all of as Had to do something and then the assessments started and we all did good and i enjoyed allot was good for me because I like croc's

Game capture

the last past weak we did game capture and we started be getting the cable lay ed out in the form of the boma what we are building to catch the animals in and so we started and it took about 3 hours

then they should as how to pool the sails and that was fun and lot of work the first day we did not catch allot but got some kudos was very adrenaline pumping at first but got used to it

I got a sail to pool and you Had to run like hell when the helicopter alarm went of to close the sail behind the animals then the animals Wood get push into the truck and be taking of to a holding spot

The next two days we catch allot of animals like kudos, eland,blouwildbees and blesboks lots of this animals and it was very fun and do it again

Species care 14 July

we started to do species care at the wild life center and I learned allot of how to take care of animals like the lions and much more animals and is not so easy as people think there is things that can stress out the animal. So you must first must now what you are doing beware entering the cage of the animal for your safety and the animals safety

In the mornings we did the paper work and in the afternoons we did the practical for a month long and we helped feeding and learned what we feed to other animals as well . One thing that I enjoyed was feeding the Ringo's 2 of them and still were dangers to people as small as they are but very strong . I helped to cut the meat for the lions and get the milk right to the Ringo's and other animals that eat meat and drink milk

We cleaned the cages of the wildlife center and they did show as how to do clean it and with what to clean it with so that we do not harm the animals .I did clean the cheetahs cage and went very good and the laast weak we did assessments and was good and I did very good in it and the species care was lots of fun

Fire lines

Fire lines cuttings for 2 Weeks

Cutting fire lines is not so easy as every one thinks you have to do planning and choose were you want to cut the lines.Then you have to get all of the equipment ready and make sherten of the number of the equipment you have so that you do not lose some or someone steels a panga for exp.You also have to plan we are the poeple going to eat if it is launch and make shore that there is water at all times and a first aid bag. But why do we cut fire lines because so when a fire happens that we have a clean place to fight the fire.

we Had 2 trackers that was helping as and some days staff members and we had to clean the way for the big tracker like pick up the rocks and bottles up and cutting out the smaller trees. And the smaller trackers went into the places that the bigger one cloud no get to so everything went fast. but we had to cut the grass next the trees were the trackers cloudend get.I used the brush cutter,panga,axe,saw,pitch fork.But you can say we used all of the equipment and yes some broke but we did get the job doin at the end it was hard work but it also was fun .We start a day be getting the equipment ready and then putting on the tata and goneing to where we are going to cut for the day .Then when its lauch we all went to the entertament area to have lauch afer lauch we went back to cutting about 5 o'clock we pake everything up and go ang claen the equipment before going home

Meet the manegers

We all had things to plan for the meet the manegers and the day come and we went to get the tables and everything and set every thing up at 3 o'clock and about 6 o'clock and started to pratice the song for the manegers and we did 6 times and we learned it well and then they stared to come in my roll was to play waiter and to clean up . As they come in we welkomed them and they went to sit and we waited for all of the manegers to come they did. And as every one was sitted the manegers started to speak.

We cooked for them dance and singed for the manegers and they enjoyed it and we showed them slideshows of our self to tell them more about as us all. We learned more about why we are here and we all learned more about most of the manegers

Tambuki camp

The first day

We started the day by knowing we have to walk to tambuki and get assessed and it was very fun and I learned allot about trees and I like the drolpear the most of the story it have about the name of the tree. The assessment went very good but i can and have to learn more about birds and there sounds . we got at the camp at the midday and kelvins group was or rede there.And the night come and we all braaied and we sleep ed net to the fire under the stars.

The seconded day

we walked to the rocks and we learned most about culture mostly about the stone age people that lived there and how they made weapons by using rocks and then we walked back and let the grils make fire and it did not went so good then we had to take over and started over again but it was fun

The last day

We started to walk back and got assessed and it went it went very good the time at tambuki learned me allot and helped me learn my trees more and it was very fun and learned full we got back at the boys house and dit a debreefing about the 3 days at tambuki and was it fun and learn full and dit it help every one. It helped me allot it learned me about grass trees ground ..... it was good fun

Fire fighting

2 March we did fire fighting drills and we learned more about what we must do if there is a fire on sondela. If the alarm goes of we all get together at the work shop and one goes in and gets the fire fighting equipment and we were six in a group and we put it on. It was warm and I enjoyed it a lot and it will help as in our up coming jobs so that we can help. Before we did our drills we were shown how to put our equipment on.

Our drills we put all the equipment on and we jumped on a tracker that took as to a random place were we learned how to put a fire out . And had to run back to get the water bag and run back and put every thing back in there place. the must important rule of fire fighting is to look out for your other fire fighting persons and help were help is needed and no fire is safe at all kill it before it gets out of hand. But we are not allowed to fight fires on Sondela but if they need our help we are allowed to fight fire.

weekend cocktail bar

We were two students working the cocktail bar we were there the 19 Feb on tel the 21 Feb it was a fun weekend I enjoyed it learned more how to make lots of cocktails and how the money story works . I counted stock and cashed up and it is very easy and it takes long . We worked form 8:30 ontell 4:30

December PH

December I did pH-ing at sondela and i learned how to entertain people and to do cross marketing of product and how to sell it by speaking of it and to draw the person to it so he want to go and buy it or go and do it.

But I also entertained children and followed a program to play and entertained the people and keep them happy because if they are happy there children are happy and there wallet goes open for sondela if not no money. I have learned how to speak better to a person and what I must do to make them happy and keep them happy how by playing games with the children and even with the adults like volleyball and learned to play a lot of games my people skills have in proved a lot sens December. We worked in one big group and we all did very well I think and got to be Friends and it was fun December. I learned a lot more of sondela grounds More that helped a lot for me because know I have some idea of sondela that I learned Decemder.

CVP weekend

The Friday I did welcoming at the cvp it was fun and had meet a lot of new people and there was about 33 cars tents and care wags that had come in that weekend. that night I had to go around and speak to the guest there and told them what is going on the weekend and what can do to keep them busy or were they can have a good fun time.

Saturday I started 7:30 and worked by careing braaiers and they are heavy and through the day a spoke to the guest and most of them were friendly and we got Alon were well and all of them had by that time learned my name. The night we had to do bring and braai and there was about 40 people that were there that night and we a had fun the guest and all of as. I got to spoke to allot of guests that night.

Sundae I helped the guest toe pake up and played with the children and about 3:00 clock we went a meeting and got a feed back of the weekend what went well and what we could have done better. I had fun this weekend and learned a lot more about what the guest wants and what you can do to help them enjoy there weekend.

Bela Bela Tour Trip

3 February

This morning Cobus told as more about what happens on a tour like how to organised a tour.First make sure you got transport and take a look at it make sure there is petrol in and water is full and check the oil. If its hot make sure there is air con for the tourists.

Make sure there are lots of windows in the transport let them take turns to sit next to the windows.Give them options of what can do or tell them what to do.Also tell them what is going to happen on the tour and what not to do on the tour also tell them what they need to have like water or cool drinks.As you drive do not speak keep talking to the tourists keep them interested and think for the people

Then we went on the tour and this was the places we saw.
Iformatoin center

We got there at 9:05 and left at 9:36.
Provided as with all the information we needed.
Very professional and clean inside.
The people are very friendly that we spoke to.
Well organised.
They gave as pamphlet's a lot
Grave yard

Sondela Office

There where people from Kenna and Zimbabwe and they sale wooden carved animals and they where very friendly

Block House

The house was build by the English in the Boere war to protect the train rail road.
It has 3 floors and there was see able gun shots in the wall.
It is a very well protected house.
And it had a balcony a small one.

Silo's

There were 7 big one's that was 37,7m wide and 45m high and could take 35 000ton maize each.
there were 4 small one's to.
We got there at 10:42 and left at 10:48.
Keep grain crops inside them.

Township

We got there at 10:51 and left at 11:00.
People is very friendly.
There is a club and a shebeen that played jazz.
Good food good prices.
Houses were small and tightly pack in the township we saw a Bela Bela primary school.

I had fun on the tour and learned a lot about Bela Bela and how a tour had to go.

Debriefing of the exterminatoin of the aquelea

Debriefing of the extermination of the aquelea

Why are we doing it is because the aquelae was eating the farmers crops most the grain farms. So the farmers had no other why so they had to followed the bird and they did. They saw that the bird styd on sondela that the aquelea had nested on sondela. So they call the agriculture department and sondela was notified what was going on and what was going to happen. first we had to see where the nests are on sondela 46 hectors of were the aquelea had nested.

So sondela had to mark the area and had to start to plan what and how we going to do the extermination of the aquela bird. Then we went to do a site visit and look were they are breeding. We got a site debriefing more about the bird and how it lived and how the breed and the breed very fast. So then we stated to mark the the area for the plane which Then the no target species had to be chased away and did very good and it worked. Then we got out of the area and check that everyone is out of the area . Then the we waited for the plane to show. We waited a about 20 min not long. Then the plane showed and stared to spraying the area that was about 45 min to a 60min. then they shot into the ground to wake up the brides to get them out of there nests to breve in the poison. Then we all went home and to go and sleep early.

The next morning we go there and started to go and look for non target animals we find a dead white face oil and one what still lived and a snake that also lived and took it to the wildlife center to get treated. Most of the brids was dead and I think it worked very well. I founded it very existing and it was for a good course and hopefully not have to do it soon again because they do not now what they are doing after all they are only animals.
